Scheduled posting to Telegram: set it up in five minutes
How to schedule posts to a Telegram channel: create a bot, give it publishing rights, plan the queue and check the result.
What you need
A Telegram channel and a bot created in @BotFather. The bot does not need to be visible to readers: it only publishes on behalf of the channel.
- Open @BotFather, send
/newbot, give it a name and copy the token. - Add the bot to the channel as an administrator and enable the Post messages right.
- Paste the token and the channel address into Postomat — access is verified automatically.
Why a bot and not a reminder
Scheduled posts from the Telegram app are convenient for one-off messages, but they do not survive a lost phone, and they cannot be moved between channels. A publishing service keeps the queue on the server: the post goes out even if your laptop is off, and the history shows exactly what was published where.
How the queue works
- You choose the date and time in your own time zone — the service stores it in UTC and converts it back for display.
- The post is published within a few seconds of the appointed minute.
- If Telegram rejects a post, the service shows the platform's reason in plain words and retries up to three times. Channels that already accepted the post are not duplicated.
Text limits to keep in mind
Telegram allows up to 4096 characters in a message, and up to 1024 characters in the caption of a message with an image. Postomat warns before saving when the text is longer than the platform accepts, so the post is not silently trimmed.
Checking the result
After publishing, each channel gets its own status and a link to the published message. If something failed, the error text is stored next to the post — handy when you publish on behalf of a client.

Does the bot need to be an administrator?
Yes: without the “Post messages” right the channel will reject publications from the bot.
Can I schedule several posts at once?
Yes — plan a week ahead in one sitting, or use recurring series with a daily, weekly or monthly step.
What happens if the post cannot be published?
The service retries three times, then marks the post as failed and shows the platform error in the post card.
