How to pin a post in a Telegram channel (and what to keep there)
How to pin a post in a Telegram channel on mobile and desktop, what to keep in it, and which limits to plan for. A practical checklist.
A Telegram channel has exactly one pinned post. Open the channel, long-press the message on mobile or right-click it on desktop, and choose Pin. Use it for navigation, your main offer or the rules, and refresh it every 2–4 weeks.
What a pinned post is
The pinned post sits above the channel feed and is the first thing a new visitor sees. Telegram allows exactly one pin per channel: a new pin replaces the previous one. Treat it as a shop window, not an archive — the place for navigation, your offer and the rules.
How to pin a post
- Open your channel and find the post you want to keep at the top.
- On mobile: long-press the message and choose Pin. In some versions the command is under the “⋮” menu.
- On desktop: right-click the message and choose Pin, or use the “⋮” menu next to it.
- The post moves above the feed and stays there until you pin another post or unpin it.
If you do not see the command, check your rights: the channel owner and administrators with the “Manage messages” permission can pin.
What to keep in the pinned post
- Navigation. About, services, pricing and contact details in one post with 3–5 links. This removes a lot of repetitive direct messages.
- Your main offer. The core product or service with one clear next step: message a keyword, request a quote or follow a link.
- The rules. For a community chat: what is allowed, what is not, and how to ask a question. For a channel: a short note on format and posting frequency.
- A campaign announcement. A launch, webinar or intake — for the duration of the campaign, then replace it with navigation.
Limits people forget
- One pin per channel. You cannot pin two posts or build a carousel.
- A pin does not increase reach by itself: it improves conversion for new visitors, not delivery of regular posts.
- There is no separate analytics for the pin. Track clicks with UTM tags or short links.
- The pin does not update itself. If a price or link changes, edit the post.
How often to refresh it
Check every 2–4 weeks: is the link alive, is the offer current, does the price still match? A pinned post from last year's intake is worse than no pin at all — it makes the channel look abandoned.
Common mistakes
- Too much text. People skim the pin. Keep it to two or three screens and one obvious action.
- No link. An “about us” post without a next step does not answer “what now?”.
- Pinning news. News goes stale within a week. Publish it as a regular post and keep the pin for something permanent.
