Telegram channel comments: how to enable and moderate them
How to enable comments in a Telegram channel through a discussion group, who can reply, how to moderate and when to turn comments off.
Telegram channel comments come from a linked discussion group. Open channel settings → Discussion, create or link a group, then appoint moderators before you announce the feature.
Telegram channels do not have a built-in comment feed: discussions are attached as a separate group. That gives you flexibility — you can open comments, restrict them or turn them off without deleting the channel.
How to enable comments
- Open the channel → Manage → Discussion.
- Create a new group or link an existing one.
- Select the group and confirm the link.
- Publish a test post and check that the “Comment” button appears.
If the button is missing, check that the group is actually linked and that you have administrator rights in the channel.
Who can comment
Comments are written by members of the linked group. In some configurations a person must join the group before replying. It is not a separate subscription to the channel, but it is not anonymous either.
Moderation
- Administrators. Appoint group moderators and grant only the permissions they need.
- Rules. Pin short rules in the group: what is allowed, what is not, and how to ask a question.
- Delete and ban. Remove spam and abuse; restrict repeat offenders.
- Slow mode. During a rush, set an interval between messages.
- Notifications. Watch the group separately: comments do not always appear in the channel feed.
When to turn comments off
- You do not have the capacity to reply. An open group without answers reduces trust.
- The topic invites conflict and there is no moderation.
- Comments are used only for ads and spam.
You can disable discussions in the channel settings by unlinking the group; the group history remains separate.
Common mistakes
- Linking a group but appointing no moderators. Spam appears faster than you can react.
- Forgetting notifications. Questions stay unanswered while the channel looks active.
- Deleting the group. The discussions disappear with it. Unlink the group instead of deleting the archive.

Why is there no comment button on my channel?
Comments appear only after a discussion group is linked in the channel settings. Check the link and your administrator rights.
Can people comment anonymously?
A comment is left by a group member; there is no fully anonymous mode for everyone. Some clients hide the phone number, but administrators can still see the account.
What happens if I unlink the group?
New comments under posts disappear, while the group history remains separate. You do not need to delete the group if you want to keep the discussions.
