VK community setup: a 30-minute checklist
A practical VK community checklist: name and search, avatar and cover, description, menu, pinned post, first posts and permissions.
A VK community needs a keyword-first name, a readable avatar and cover, a description with contacts, a 3–5 item menu, a current pinned post and three first posts. This checklist takes about 30 minutes.
Good VK community design does two jobs: it explains in five seconds where the visitor has landed, and it gives them a next step. Here is a checklist you can complete in half an hour.
1. Name and search
- Put the keyword first: “Dentistry …”, “Coffee shop …”, “Renovation …”.
- Avoid symbols and keyword stuffing: people read the name, not only the algorithm.
- Check how the community is found by name and city.
2. Avatar and cover
- The avatar is square and readable at a small size: a logo or a face, not tiny text.
- Design the cover for mobile cropping: the key element must not fall off the edge.
- Keep the same colours and fonts as your website so it feels like one brand.
3. Description
The first two lines are visible without expanding. Say what you do, for whom and where. Then add the website, phone, address and opening hours. Do not hide contact details at the end of a long text.
4. Menu and action button
- 3–5 items: Services, Prices, Book, Reviews, Contacts.
- The action button should lead to the website or messages, not to nowhere.
- Test every link on a phone: a large share of traffic will come from mobile.
5. Pinned post and discussions
The pinned post is your shop window: an offer, navigation or the rules. Open discussions only if you are ready to answer; otherwise close them and move the dialogue to messages.
6. The first posts
- One “about us” post with a photo of the team or the place.
- One useful post on the topic — an answer to a frequent question, not an ad.
- One post with an offer and a clear next step.
The checklist
- The name contains a keyword and reads cleanly.
- The avatar and cover are not cropped on a phone.
- The description includes a link, contacts and the city.
- The menu has 3–5 items and every link works.
- The pinned post is current and leads to a next step.
- Three first posts are published.
- Administrator rights and tokens are checked.

Frequently asked
What matters more for a VK community: the cover or the description?
The cover and name shape the first impression; the description and pinned post drive conversion. Do both: a visitor must understand where they are and what to do next.
Should I close discussions?
If you cannot answer promptly, yes. Close them and direct questions to messages. Open discussions without replies reduce trust.
How often should I change the design?
Update the cover and pinned post when the offer or season changes. Change the avatar and name only for a rebrand: frequent changes hurt recognition.
