How to move posts between Telegram and VK

How to move posts between Telegram and VK: formatting, media, links, limits and the mistakes that break a post during transfer.

Short answer

There is no one-click archive transfer between Telegram and VK. Copy the text, upload media again, rebuild formatting and links, then schedule the post — or set up cross-posting for the ongoing flow.

There is no native archive transfer between Telegram and VK: the platforms do not exchange posts automatically. You can move a post manually or use a scheduler, but the text, media and links need to be checked either way.

Decide what you are moving

  • An archive. Old posts that should become a knowledge base in the new community.
  • A series. Several posts on one topic for a platform launch.
  • A regular flow. New posts that should appear in both places.

An archive needs curation. A regular flow needs cross-posting. Do not mix the two into one bulk transfer.

Telegram → VK

  1. Copy the text and remove Telegram formatting: VK has its own rules, and asterisks or underscores may remain as visible symbols.
  2. Download photos and videos from Telegram and upload them to VK again. Direct Telegram file links do not work as VK attachments.
  3. Check the limits: Telegram allows up to 4096 characters, and VK is similar, but a long caption under media may be cut.
  4. Replace Telegram links and @mentions with VK addresses or a website link.
  5. Publish a test post and check the link preview and album layout.

VK → Telegram

  1. Copy the text and rebuild the formatting for Telegram: bold, italic and links are safer to set again.
  2. Download media from VK and upload it to Telegram; an album can hold 2–10 files.
  3. Remove VK-specific elements: polls, products and buttons may not transfer.
  4. Check that the VK post link opens for readers without logging in, or replace it with a website link.
  5. Add the post to the queue and check the preview before publishing.

Using a scheduler

A scheduler does not import an entire archive with one button, but it removes the routine from the ongoing flow: copy the posts you need into the composer, select both platforms and build a queue. For an archive, create a series of drafts and publish them one by one instead of dumping everything at once.

If a post has already gone out on Telegram, do not publish it on VK in the same hour. Give each audience its own timing and context. For a repeat, add a new headline or a note that this is an archive piece.

Common mistakes

  • Copying the markup. Formatting symbols remain visible to readers.
  • Linking to media instead of uploading files. Attachments fail or appear as empty blocks.
  • Unmarked duplicates. People who follow both platforms see the same text and unsubscribe.
  • Forgotten time zone. The post goes out at night or at the same moment as the original.
  • Moving someone else's content. Text and photos need rights; credit the source and author.

Frequently asked

Can I automatically move an entire Telegram archive to VK?

There is no one-click archive transfer. Posts are moved manually or as a series of drafts; automation is usually set up for new publications, not old ones.

Will formatting survive the transfer?

Not always. Telegram and VK use different markup, so bold, italic and links should be checked and rebuilt.

Can I move posts from VK to Telegram?

Yes, in the same way: copy the text, download the media and upload it again. Check caption limits and make sure links open without a VK login.
